How much do bloggers make?

The two questions we often get asked:
“How much can I earn from blogging?”
“If I quit my job, how long will it take me to earn XXX/day?”

How much do bloggers actually make? Is this blogging thing real or just a fluke? Well, it varies, It’s like asking how much does a musician really make?

Let’s be honest people usually ask this question because it’s not your typical 9 to 5 job. Anything that seems too good to be true always makes people skeptical.

We felt the same way at first because when you think about a blog most people start one as a hobby.

When you talk to strangers it sounds like a hobby but when you talk to friends and family, it sounds like unemployment.

Family ask us all the time, are you guys still doing that blogging thing? We just laugh most of the time and just reply back with yes, We do.

Now, let’s get back on track and on the topic of how much do bloggers actually make?

What Are Established bloggers Earning?

In the established blogging community, we would say that most operate in the Intermediate earning category.
The amount can range depends on how advanced you are as a blogger.

  • As an Intermediate, you can make $100.00 – $1,000.00 per month
  • A more advanced blogger can make $5,000 – $50.000 per month
  • pro blogger can be making $100,000 – $1,000,000 or even more per month

Here are a few pro bloggers that will inspire and show you it’s very much possible to make a substantial amount of money blogging.

  • Making Sense of Cents (Personal Finance) – Michelle has been blogging for a few years and makes six figures per month.
  • Smart Passive Income (Make money online) – Pat Flynn has been blogging over 5yrs and makes well over six figures.
  • Avocadu  (Health & Fitness Blog) – Alex & Lauren has been blogging just over two years and making six figures per month.
  • Project Life Mastery (Self-help/ Make money online) – Stefan James has been blogging over 5yrs and making six figures per month.
  • Melyssa Griffin (Make Money Online) – Melyssa has been blogging just over 3yrs and making six figures per month.

Note that by ‘pro blogger’, we’re talking about bloggers working full-time.

Here’s the thing new bloggers get wrong, your blog itself isn’t really a business, it’s a platform for other streams of income. When we created Diamond Legacy Group 2yrs ago, it was to educate our audience on our opportunity to our company. It was a platform to our previous business. Your content alone won’t make you money. You have to sell services like consulting, speaking, use affiliate marketing to get sales from links people click on, offer your own products like health products or e-books, sell services and provide through online e-courses by using a software call Teachable.

ProBlogger has a great graph below on ways to make money

How much does the average blogger make?
How much you could make blogging depends on a couple of factors.
  1. How often do you blog?
  2. The quality of content.
  3. How competitive your topic is
  4. How effective you are at building an audience and generating traffic.
  5. Oh and little bit of luck:)
But this is the same reasons with any business. When you are in business the number #1 factor is execution. Don’t let this discourage you, just know it takes months, to start making a living from your blog.

Can I really blog about anything or are some blogging niches more profitable than others?

YES, ABSOLUTELY!

Here is a couple of niches that are more profitable.

  1. How to make money
  2. Health and Fitness
  3. Personal Finance
  4. Starting a home based business
  5. Beauty and Fashion
  6. Women’s Lifestyle
These are all popular niches and in particular, they do really well but if you are not experienced in any of these niches it will be very difficult to EXECUTE.
Your readers can tell when you have no clue as to what you are talking about, and they will see right through you.
That’s why we recommend starting off with something you are passionate about and have experience in. Example: Legacy Cakery is a baking company we started in 2006. Started as a hobby, now a part-time business growing every day.

Reasons why people fail at blogging

  • They think it’s a “get rich quick scheme.” People in today society are always looking for ways to make extra income or full-time income. The problem is there looking for the microwave fast money effect. Sad to say, but there is no such thing unless it illegal. The real secret is HARD WORK!
  • “Faith without work is dead.” People believe by just posting a blog once a month or a couple of weeks, no communication with their audience or creating valuable content will do the work. The money will just pour in and all their problems will be solved. That is an awesome concept but it is important to note work follow faith.
  • They never start. People are always looking for more information to learn, so they never get started. Fear seeps in and continues to hold them back from starting a business Here’s the truth taken action and making mistake after mistake after mistake along your journey will bring success. You gotta fail forward in this business to make it to the top. Taking a risk and getting started is half the battle.

To succeed as a blogger comes down to a couple of things.

  • Hard work pays off because there is no secret to success.
  • Become a value creator, because the more value you provide the more you will attract. At the end of the day, it all about creating great value for others.
  • Become a problem solver, The great Brian Tracy said it best, “The more you help others, the more they will want to help you.”

People who usually take action!

  • Those that control their futures.
  • Those that get to decide what they want to do today.
  • Those that don’t subconsciously stress where their next penny is going.
  • Those that get to spend more time with family and friends.
Usually, this is reserved for people that own big businesses. Most people will start a blog right now but a very few will TAKE ACTION!
