What made you get started in your industry?
Well, after planning my own wedding and experiencing the stress associated with it, I decided that I wanted to learn a bit more. I figured that planning a wedding shouldn't be this stressful. I wanted brides to be able to experience happy times when planning their own wedding instead of stress.
Walk us through the step-by-step process that you went through to get to where you are today. What was the first thing you did?
For me, my wedding stress was my 1st step. After that, I signed up for an online wedding certification course to become a certified wedding planner. To gain a little experience I helped plan my brother's wedding. Seeing that I needed to gain some real experience, I grabbed a bridal magazine and emailed every planner listed to see if they had any intern positions available. Time went on and then one day a planner contacted me back and she was indeed looking for an intern. That moment changed my life. She taught me much of what I know today. She helped to lay the foundation of how I would run my own business. I watched and learned as much as I could. After that experience, I open my business as K Squared Events & Design. I attend several conferences yearly and network as often as possible.
What do you consider are your specialty?
Being able to offer brides multiple services. At K Squared Events & Design not only do we offer event planning, we also offer floral design, decor, and rentals.
Do you see yourself making this full-time?
Absolutely!!! I am actually in the process of making it my full time now.
What can we always expect from your company/brand?
A listening ear and amazing service. Because no matter how pretty, over the top or unique I can make your wedding, I have to listen to you to determine your vision. Everyone does not do that well. It's pretty but is it your vision or your clients.
What was the best advice you every received and why?
To go for it!!! Because I doubted myself but just those small words encouraged me enough to remember that 'I've got this'
What tips can you recommend that you’d would most likely only share with a close friend or comrade on success?
I would share this with anybody. Because I want us all to make it. Always trust yourself, don't be too hard on yourself. You are more than enough!!!!
Favorite online resources such as Evernote or Dropbox that you use for your business?
For my business and getting a better idea of what clients are looking for Pinterest has been very helpful as a business resource. In addition, Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive are where I save the majority of my computer files. This way if I need to send something while on the go I can access it quickly.
Can you recommend one or two books that has been influential in your life?
What can we expect from you and your company/brand in the next 5 years?
I would love to have a firm of experienced florist and planners on my team. I also love to train, so I'd love to offer classes or educational opportunities.
What do you think will be the next big change or shift in your industry?
Its hard to say. In this day & age brides want instance gratification. There's bridal gown & dress rentals, air bnb, zip cars. Whatever the next shift is it'll be convenient that's for sure.
If a young entrepreneur walked up to you asking for your advice and you only had a few minutes to give ‘em your best tip, what would it be?
Do not pay for a certification course! See if you can shadow or intern with an experienced planner.
