The Interview

What made you get started in your industry?

Coming from a family dominated by women. I knew early the importance of empowering women. My grandmother was the epitome of strength, style, stern, love, courage, raising 10 girls. I knew early that there was a deep need at the time for empowerment for women.  I was in disbelief at how broken women were growing up. However, youth and the community and empowerment for the village to which you belong should be something that we all contribute to.  I have been volunteering within my community and since I was a youngster. Helping my elders etc it's always been 2nd nature to me.

Walk us through the step-by-step process that you went through to get to where you are today. What was the first thing you did?

My mom and her friends had an organization at the time by the name of " THE ROPE" her organization was a small sister circle of friends who uplift one another and went out on outings, had a book club and just enjoyed one another and life.  I wanted to recreate what they had on a different platform. Therefore I set out to do just that.  I reached out to a few of my good friends and a cousin at the time and sent out invites back in 2006. I invited them to my house to be apart of this new movement. We sat on the carpet in my living room and came up with the roles of each member, me being the president and trickling down to the roles and responsibilities of each member. Needless to say that particular group went nowhere, it was back to the drawing board, but I learned a lot from the experience and I went back to recreating this movement the way I wanted and birthed. What do you consider are your specialty?

My specialty is authenticity, humbleness, consistency and faith. With a whole lot of love and passion, those ingredients make for a ball of success.

Do you see yourself making this full-time?

Well, this is full time. I have been doing this since 2006. Leaving room to take one break just recently when my mom became ill. I took my first break for a year, now I am back to work, slowly but back to work.

What can we always expect from your company/brand?

You can always expect authentic unique events. When I started no one  I knew was doing what I was doing. Now everywhere there is a similar organization. It's important to remember what sets me aside from the rest.  Keeping that in mind and executing it in such a heartfelt way that connects with the community that supports me will always be my brand. Simply put PASSION AND AUTHENTICITY STAYING TRUE TO MY MISSION AT HAND AND WHAT I AM TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH.

What was the best advice you every received and why?

The best advice I received was to stay true to your beliefs, stay authentic, allow your passion to fuel your success and remain consistent.

What tips can you recommend that you’d most likely only share with a close friend or comrade on success?

I share any and all of my tips and connections with everyone. Because if I can help someone to excel and get to another level. I am fueled by that. I love it we are supposed to share our knowledge and wisdom with others. What good is it to hold on to it?

Favorite online resources such as Evernote or Dropbox that you use for your business?

FIVER has become my new best friend I would advise everyone and anyone to download the app.

Can you recommend one or two books that have been influential in your life?

John c Maxwell how to be a great mentor and leader and of course the Bible

What can we expect from you and your company/brand in the next 5 years?

Well, I learned a valuable lesson a few years back about sharing too soon. However, I
am working on one of my dreams at the moment and if you follow my movement the signs and truth are in my messages I post. Stay tuned.

What do you think will be the next big change or shift in your industry?

To be honest I am not sure but my ears and eyes are definitely on the look out. Maybe I will shift something STAY TUNED!

If a young entrepreneur walked up to you asking for your advice and you only had a few minutes to give ‘em your best tip, what would it be?

The same tips others have given me stay consistent, find a mentor hustle hard and make sure your brand is set aside from all the rest.

How do you define a legacy and what are you doing right now to create one?

I define legacy as being something of you that will live long after we have gone. What I am doing now to create my legacy is trying to shift the way our communities, youth, women etc handle life.  I am trying to empower people to the point that we handle things on a full heart as opposed to a broken heart. We do things with purpose and the betterment of ourselves, communities and future.
