The Power of Self-Confidence
As you learn to build and understand the strength and power behind self-confidence, you will realize confidence is something no one can take away from you. Self-confidence is extremely important in almost every aspect of our lives; people who lack self-confidence can find it difficult to become successful. As our achievement is one measurement towards our success, people who struggle with self-confidence may sadly believe they haven't achieved enough to be successful. It's during these times that you need to take self-inventory of where you are, what's important to you and where you want to be. What are your strengths and how can you get yourself on the right path and mindset to start and stay committed to this journey.
The first step in building self-confidence is managing your mind and learning how to separate negative self-talk and thoughts. These are the ultimate killers of self-confidence. Stay on top of positive thinking, by celebrating and enjoying success even if it's something small keep those mental images strong and at the forefront of your mind.
Confidence shows in Your Behavior
Your level of self-confidence can show in many ways: your behavior, your body language, how you speak and what you say. Recognizing thoughts and actions associated with low self-confidence are key to improving your confidence levels by preparing for the journey is to make a clear and unequivocal promise to yourself that you are absolutely committed to your success and you will do all in your power to achieve it. Confident people recognize other confident people and gaining confidence in others is one of the key ways in which a self-confident person finds success.
How Confident Do You Seem to Others?
|Confident Behavior||Behavior Associated With low Self-Confidence|
|Doing what you believe to be right, even if others mock or criticize you for it.||Governing your behavior based on what other people think.|
|Being willing to take risks and go the extra mile to achieve better things.||Staying in your comfort zone, fearing failure, and so avoid taking risks.|
|Admitting your mistakes, and learning from them.||Working hard to cover up mistakes and hoping that you can fix the problem before anyone notices.|
|Waiting for others to congratulate you on your accomplishments.||Extolling your own virtues as often as possible to as many people as possible.|
|Accepting compliments graciously. “Thanks, I really worked hard on that prospectus. I’m pleased you recognize my efforts.”||Dismissing compliments offhandedly. “Oh that prospectus was nothing really, anyone could have done it.”|
As you can see from these examples self-destructive behavior is highly associated with low self-confidence, and it often manifests itself as negativity. Confident people are generally more positive – they believe in themselves and their abilities, which then leads to a fullness in life.
What Is Self-Confidence?
According to Webster.com, Self-confidence is defined as a feeling of trust in one's abilities, qualities, and judgment. By having self-confidence in oneself not only allows a person the ability to inspire others but gain the confidence needed to succeed. Self –Confidence coincides greatly with how we see ourselves and how we cope with the environment around us. Self-esteem and self-efficacy overlap and contribute to what makes up your self-confidence. The amazing news is the ability to tap into your self-confidence and build it up is readily achievable, while results vary and are not immediate for everyone, building up your self-confidence correlates greatly with your success.
So how do you build this sense of balance for a stronger self-confidence? Some people believe self-confidence can be built with affirmations and positive thinking. From our research, the importance of building self-confidence can start with simply setting goals and putting forth a plan to achieve them in doing so you are building the core competencies for your success which then can improve your self -confidence. Here's are a few ways to boost your confidence
Affirmations are positive, specific statements that help you to overcome self-sabotaging, negative thoughts. They help you visualize, and believe in, what you're stating to yourself, by helping you to make positive alterations in your life and career. We use affirmations to speak existence into our projects. You tube is a great resource for affirmations that you can play while on the go. Don't kill your dreams through your thoughts.
It is crucial that you become aware of your own self-talk. The thoughts you have for yourself and for what you are doing have to coincide and be positive. Don't sabotage your dreams before you even got started. You have to be aware of your thoughts and when they are turning negative. Once recognized you have to learn how to turn them into positive ones. Positive thoughts can then shape your affirmations.
Get to know and love yourself
In any competitive match, you are told by your coach to learn the ins and outs of your opponent. The same holds true for yourself. The more you know about you and what triggers you the easier you can work on controlling negative thoughts. You can start this process by journaling, writing things down or doing a video about the thoughts you have about yourself. Analyze why these thoughts are occurring and things we can do to change them. This process may take you deeper than you've ever gone before but the results may lead to the biggest advantage of building your self-confidence than ever before.
Positive Support network
As the saying goes you are the average of the 5 friends you hang around. Limit contact with naysayers and critics as you are boosting your self-confidence. Those with ill intended motivates and negative remarks can be most destructive during the building process. As you cultivate your own positive attitudes and take strides to achieve your goals. Be cautious about who you want to spend your time with and pick those individuals who were supportive and uplifting. Maintain a supportive network of friends, family members and colleagues.
Will take some time to think about which people in your life really make you feel great. Make a goal to spend more time with people who are supportive and uplifting.
Be about it!
It's not enough to just think about being positive you have to also but those thoughts into action. By actually doing can lead to a positive flow of energy resulting in a boost of your self-confidence. Talking to people in a positive way, put energy into your actions. You’ll soon start to notice a difference not only in your thoughts but also in your mood.
Get Ready, Stay Ready!!
Prepare your mind for greatness by doing the work, you can't remain confident in yourself if you don't believe you will do well. In school, to get good grades you studied to know the curriculum. It's the same with life if you don't study what you want, then how are you going to achieve it? This feeling can be avoidable through preparation. It’s hard to be confident in yourself if you don’t think you’ll do well at something. Beat that feeling by preparing yourself as much as possible. Think about taking an exam: if you haven’t studied, you won’t have much confidence in your abilities to do well on the exam. But if you studied your butt off, you’re prepared, and you’ll be much more confident. Now think of life as your exam, and prepare yourself.
Think small to go big
Instead of shooting for the stars and overwhelming yourself. Break things down into small increments first. Try seeing things from a smaller perspective work from that point to then solve the problem instead of looking at the whole picture at once. Set small goals, achieve them and repeat. This will build your confidence and set you up for positive results.
Exercising can be one of the most exhilarating and empowering activities to help with self-confidence. By taking a few days out your schedule to exercise can lead to substantial benefits. Get up and get active!
Sit down and make a gratitude list, writing down all of the things you are thankful for. Read it over and add to it at least once a week, and it will put you in a more positive, empowering frame of mind.
Empowering yourself, in general, is one of the best strategies for building self-confidence. You can do that in many ways, but one of the quickest ways to empower yourself is through knowledge. By becoming more knowledgeable you are taken advantage of the resources around which in the long run will then give you more confidence and prepare you for your future.
