It holds a distinct position with great significance in the history of black culture. With the rise of the Natural Hair Movement the headwrap has resurged and is taking its place as a hair staple in today’s modern world. Gaining back popularity not just in black fashion, it has become a statement piece in high fashion and style around the globe. As there are many facets to the headwrap our next featured entrepreneur on Diamond Legacy Group Spotlight Monday, Mrs. Krystine Green founder and creator of Elinorah an online boutique, is providing a platform for the headwrap as the site’s inaugural product made in Southern California from 100% cotton handmade fabric. Through her online boutique Elinorah, Krystine Green mission is to empowering women by featuring products only created or curated by women in her online specialty store, female entrepreneurs can showcase their style, talent and products.


As an apparel merchandiser and personal stylist, Krystine focus is on providing a community where women are heard and celebrated through fashion and apparel. With this industry heavily saturated by men, Krystine believes style is one of the most powerful ways to leave a statement without uttering a word. With over six years of experience in seasonal production line, visual merchandising and planning. Elinorah is Krystine’s way of giving back to females by providing them with a place where they can showcase bold and stylish pieces as well as accessories to the online shopping industry.


As a wife, mother, sister and friend Krystine is doing amazing things as she concurrently runs her styling site were she helps people learn how to express themselves through clothing without breaking the bank. With a vast knowledge of the apparel industry and a full understanding of garment quality and trends, you can expect high-quality professional service from Krystine and her companies. The Interview

What made you get started in your industry?

I have been working in the apparel industry corporately for over 10 years now. I started in retail stores while going to college and made the change to merchandising years later. My schooling combined with work experience gave me a full understanding of how the industry works. I’ve always planned to have my own store one way or another; this just ended up being the way!


Krystine Green of ELINORAHWalk us through the step-by-step process that you went through to get to where you are today. What was the first thing you did?

I’m notorious for having too many ideas so the first thing I did was narrow them down. I wanted to offer so many things but ultimately, I settled on what I could do easily myself without having too much overhead. Once I decided to start with headwraps, I thought about how to brand my company. I chose elinorah because it is a combination of my kids’ names; Eli and Norah. They are the reason I go so hard at what I do; I want to show them that anything is possible if you work hard enough and surround yourself with the right people. Once I settled on my company name, I created my logo, sourced fabrics and trims, then created my website. And here we are! 


What do you consider are your specialty?

Right now headwraps are my specialty. The true goal and focus of my site, however, is to offer products from other female entrepreneurs. I want to have a wide variety of items. Often, women are overshadowed by men in areas that we should dominate (like women’s fashion) so I wanted a woman-exclusive space to highlight our awesomeness through style. 


Do you see yourself making this full-time?

Absolutely. BUT…I am a busy body so I will be doing other things still I’m sure! 


What can we always expect from your company/brand?

You can always expect that every item has been specially curated and will be of quality. I’m not a fan of just selling things to sell them. If I’m not confident in the quality of something, I won’t sell it – even if I have made the investment already. I want to set the standard that anyone who purchases from elinorah.com can expect items that have been made with love and are of exceptional quality.


What was the best advice you ever received and why?

My mother is a plethora of advice so it’s hard to choose just one piece! I would say one thing that resonates with me the most is “figure it out.” I don’t subscribe to the “welp, I guess I can’t do that” mentality. No. If it doesn’t work one way, I’m going to figure out another way. Keep going!


What tips can you recommend that you’d would most likely only share with a close friend or comrade on success?

Success comes a little at a time. Even small successes are still successes. I think people have the notion that once they start something, it should take off immediately and they become instant millionaires. Money is only a small part of it. True success comes from being able to say you are happy with what you do and that you are passionate about it. 

Favorite online resources such as Evernote or Dropbox that you use for your business?

 I use all the cloud based solutions – Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive. My other favorites are Canva and Pexels.


Can you recommend one or two books that have been influential in your life?

Unfortunately I haven’t had the chance to read the way I used to; and I mean it has been YEARS since I’ve read a good self-help book. I plan to fix that soon! 


What can we expect from you and your company/brand in the next 5 years?

More offerings! I recently added t-shirts and I am partnering with some very talented women to continue offering jewelry and home/lifestyle items. 


What do you think will be the next big change or shift in your industry? Kristine Green quote

The e-commerce industry is already huge. I think once (if) Instagram enables people to sell directly from images, the game will change again.


If a young entrepreneur walked up to you asking for your advice and you only had a few minutes to give ‘em your best tip, what would it be?

Don’t think you can do everything yourself. Some things are worth paying for! Often, you get back what you put out. If something is out of your wheelhouse, connect with another person who is likeminded and work together to create magic. 


How do you define a legacy and what are you doing right now to create one?

A legacy is what you do to set future generations up for success. Often, people think that only equates to monetary comforts. Money will run out; knowledge is forever. Aside from being smart financially, it is important to impart with our children the importance of hard work and dedication so they, too, may carry on the legacy of what it looks like to be a strong, empowered young man or woman. I pray that the steps I am taking currently build a legacy of perseverance for my children.
